Training…

And now here is my selfie for the week:-

In this weeks selfie I can be seen practicing the very advanced and ancient feline art of mouse dowsing. Yes, this time honoured skill utilises a cats facial antenna to find the ever elusive mouse that has gone to ground deep in the fabric of space and time, or as in this case somewhere between my office chair the seventh and eighth floors of the palace.

Please note: as perfect peace and quiet is required to complete the procedure, which requires multiple sets of triangulations throughout the day, you may find your own felines disgruntled if they are moved from where they are undertaking their endeavours. If you see your own feline undertaking this training, offerings of food should left within easy reach for nourishment between sessions.

Of course this isn’t to be confused this with napping, which is another ancient feline art employed to provide regeneration and general wellbeing–an art that was borrowed by the monks of a Buddhist persuasion. Though to my knowledge no buddhists have successfully completed the mouse dowsing extension course, which Mrs H says is something to do with religion. Me, I think it’s the lack of whiskers, MOL

How do you guys like to do your training?

  1. That is a most wonderful cozy selfie sweet Princess. Hey, Brother Simon did some mouse dowsing last night.

  2. Hi, Brian! Thank you, it was a rather pleasant 'training session'. Oooh sounds like Simon will be getting along fine on his training, maybe we can compare exam notes some day– if he has time between courses, MOLToodle pips and purrsERin

  3. Yes, it could well be, and every practitioner has their own method of training, which is why it is so difficult for humans to grasp the enlightenment ;)Toodle pips and purrsERin

  4. Beautiful selfie! Mouse dowsing is an amazing and age old skill, Erin, and it's so important to keep up with that training. Our young Ava seems to have misunderstood the spelling of \”dowsing.\” We keep finding her toy mice, being DOUSED in her water bowl. 🙂

  5. Ah, I can see you are versed in the arts. Ava's mistake is a 'schoolgirl error' as they say in human circles. I think you should take her in paw and offer a Mouse Dowsing 101 course with a sansei and maybe also remove the doused surrogate mousie. I am sure after some concentrated efforts and a few field trips she will get the gist of it….. Toodle pips and purrsERin

  6. If she doesn't then it is worth taking an intro course–and doing it together can be lots of fun too and aid in appreciation of the art and help with the homework! MOLToodle pips and purrsERin

  7. Ah well there is always the possibility that they are dowsing whilst you aren't there? SOr that your palace is all moused out in which case they may have put their skills to bed, so to speak. Some cats do get shy about these things, too. Maybe you could run a session with them, get a few mice in and watch them work their magic?Toodle pips and purrsERin

  8. Thank you. Interestingly in that shot my right whiskers were bent back. This isn't 'best practice' as for a better reading all whiskers should be working in the same direction. Though not a fail, would be marked down for this in my exam– especially if I didn't catch the mousie ;)Toodle pips and purrsERin

  9. Thank you, sleeping is as much an art as mouse dowsing–and those that can mix the two are grand mistresses indeed. Me, I would not pass that test, and need far more practice ;)Toodle pips and purrsERin

  10. I must say, dearest Princess, that you have purr-fected the art of \”mouse dowsing.\” It is something the humans have difficulty contemplating. I think you are right, that they do often mistake it for cat napping. But we pussycats know that there is a definite difference that each require unique, honed tried and true skills. I haven't seen a mousie around my housie, but I after dark I hear them outside the glass door, scurrying on my patio. 12. Oh my Valentine, if only I could come and share a night of roughing it under the stars with you, mousing and watching the cheese in the moon….
